:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Great new Series! : Great debut novel for a very promising new author. I would compare this work to things like Brandon Sanderson's Wheel of Time series, but easier to follow and moves at a quicker pace. He has setup a detailed world, with a great plot, and wonderful character building throughout the entire story. I would strongly recommend this work to anybody, even those who would not normally be interested in the fantasy genre. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- A Great Story By A Great Author! : This book chronicles the story of Adel, who is raised by a barge captain named Boyd. During Adel’s youth, his parents were killed and Captain Boyd took him in and subsequently made him a deckhand as soon as he was old enough to take on the responsibilities that came with the job. Very early on in the story, the barge is attacked by an overwhelming number of marauders as they are floating down a river. There is nowhere for them to flee and due to the current, they can’t turn back. Just when all hope is lost, Adel accidentally discovers his supernatural abilities. I will not divulge any spoilers in this review but I will say Adel saves the lives of many men that day, including Captain Boyd. I especially enjoyed this line proclaimed by Captain Boyd as the marauders try to intimidate him into surrendering. He replies, “Any man who wants to board my vessel will receive my sword through his neck as a toll.” While I usually don’t read books in this genre, I’m really glad that I discovered this book. The author did a fantastic job with developing the many great characters including Keeler, Ola, Idonox, and Alsea. The storyline flows well and is extremely interesting. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series as I want to learn more about not only Adel, but the other outstanding characters. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )
